The a cappella groups at Granada Hills Charter had normally consisted of 2 all-female comprised groups, 1 all-male comprised group, and 1 co-ed (both female and male) comprised group. However, in the year 2020, Aca had to re-vamp due to COVID-19, changing our number of groups to 2---Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After-- which are now both Co-Ed. Read about every group below to get to know our family!
OUAT is one of GHC's a cappella groups. This group was founded in 2004, making it the second-oldest of all the aca groups. OUAT recently became a competitive group, attending SCVA's A cappella Festival, the Accent Festival, and John Burroughs HS' Small Group Competition in 2021.
The group began as a barbershop influenced ensemble, and--until COVID-19 limited Aca's number of members--was all-female with barbershop voicing. In the year 2020, Once became a mixed group with female and male voices.
Happily is one of GHC's a cappella groups. This group was founded in 2012, making it the younger of the two all-female groups. Happily competed at the ICHSA's in 2020 and won Second Place at the Quarterfinals in Redwood City, California. Additionally, Happily ranked Excellent at the SCVA A cappella Festival in 2019.
This group was founded on more modern styles, and--until COVID-19 limited Aca's number of members--was all-female with barbershop voicing. In the year 2020, Happily became Co-Ed, with 5 voice parts. However, in 2021, Happily went back to all-female voicing.
Acafellas was GHC's all-male a cappella group. This group (originally Smooth White Chocolate) was founded in 2002, making it the oldest of all the a cappella groups. SWC began as a vocal group, accompanied by piano, and later developed into a barbershop group, until eventually culminating into a contemporary a cappella group.
Syncopella was GHC's first co-ed (both female and male mixed) a cappella group. This group was founded just 6 years ago, making it the youngest of all of the a cappella groups at GHC. Syncopella ranked Superior at the SCVA A cappella Festival in 2019.
